T20 World Cup 2024: The United States and the West Indies will host the T20 World Cup in 2024. For the first time, a major ICC event will be played in the United States. Twenty teams will compete, including the reigning champions England who won in 2022.
The 2024 Men’s Twenty20 World Cup will be contested in the West Indies and the United States, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said. As part of their strategic partnership, Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket submitted a combined bid.
The International Cricket Council removed USA Cricket as the tournament’s co-administrative host in October 2022. USA Cricket’s financial stability has been called into question, and the organization’s history of noncompliance with ICC financial rules is cited. There will be around $600,000 in debt included in that. The outcome of the match for the nation was not thought to be affected.
T20 World Cup 2024 Structure
After the 20 teams who made the cut are divided into four groups of five, the top two teams from each group advance to the Super 8 round. There will be two semi-finals and a championship match for the eight remaining teams, with the winners advancing to the next round.
Teams and Eligibility for the T20 World Cup 2024
The West Indies and the United States, the two hosts, will join the top eight teams from the 2022 tournament.
As of November 14, 2022, these are the top-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. The remaining automatic berths were filled by the remaining teams that had not already qualified for the finals.
Since neither the United States nor the West Indies finished in the top eight of the 2022 competition, the two highest-ranked unqualified teams from the ICC rankings qualified for the 2024 tournament. If one of the two hosts had placed in the top eight, the position would have been reallocated to the highest ranked team that did not qualify.
Regional qualifications for the ICC will be held between the top two teams from each of the following three continents: Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as one team from each of the Americas and East Asia-Pacific groupings. In May of 2022, the International Cricket Council made public the sub-regional qualifying processes for Europe, East Asia/Pacific, and Africa.
The Netherlands have qualified for the 2023 World Cup and have booked a flight to India.
