The PAN Card linked to Aadhaar Compulsory : The Income Tax Department has stated once again that there would be “consequences” for anyone who have not connected their PAN card to Aadhaar. After the deadline for connecting the two papers expired on July 1, such PAN cards became inoperative. The government stated in a tweet sent on its official account on Tuesday that an inoperative PAN does not imply an inactive card. The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar from March 31 to June 30, warning that failure to do so would result in “certain repercussions.”
The department clarified the consequences on Twitter, saying:
Such taxpayers’ PAN Card linked will be rendered ineffective.
In such instances, both tax deducted at source (TDS) and tax collected at source (TCS) would be deducted/collected at a higher rate.
There will be no refunds or interest on any outstanding refunds.

To assist taxpayers, the Income Tax administration has created a dedicated FAQ website about the process for linking PAN with Aadhaar.
Taxpayers who want to connect the two papers immediately (to activate the PAN card) may do so within 30 days “upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of a fee of Rs 1,000.”
How can I verify the status of my PAN Card linked-Adhaar?
You may access Quick Links by going to the Income Tax e-filing site. Then, on the new page, click on Link Aadhaar Status and input your PAN and Aadhaar numbers. If your PAN and Aadhaar are connected, the message “Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar” will appear. Otherwise, the pop-up will say, “PAN not associated with Aadhaar.” Please choose ‘Link Aadhaar’ to link your Aadhaar with your PAN.”
