An alleged graphic video of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, which has gone viral, has provided the opposition with ammo to target the governing coalition in Maharashtra, only days after the state experienced a political earthquake with the NCP’s split.
The Congress and the Shiv Sena, headed by Uddhav Thackeray, have slammed Mr Somaiya and the governing alliance, claiming that the film reveals their “character and true face.” They also claim to have found numerous additional similar video.
Kirit Somaiya has questioned the video’s validity and requested an investigation.
Lokshahi, a Marathi station, purportedly broadcast the footage of Mr Somaiya in a “compromising position.” NDTV is unable to independently confirm its validity.
The Congress has attacked Mr Somaiya and the Eknath Shinde-led administration, claiming that the film reveals their true nature as well as their hypocrisy.
“Today, the character and true face of the ruling coalition were revealed.” Many MLAs and MPs have been blackmailed by Kirit Somaiya. We can now see that he has blackmailed a lot of women. I’ve heard that an eight-hour video has been released. “I can’t imagine how many women must have been harassed and tortured as a result of the clip,” Congress MLA Yashomati Thakur remarked.
“BJP leaders, who frequently preach morality, must have the courage to hold Kirit Somaiya accountable and take action against him.” He has been accused of having an untrustworthy public life. Such findings have the potential to taint the public image of those who hypocritically push for efforts to educate and rescue our girls,” she continued.
Sanjay Raut, the head of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray group), paraphrased Balasaheb Thackeray and remarked, “Don’t kill with religion someone who will die by his karma.”
“We share the values of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.” ‘Don’t murder with religion someone who will die by his karma,’ he used to remark. The same thing is occurring. Much more will occur. Let’s wait and see what occurs. Maharashtra, Jai!” Mr Raut sent a tweet in Marathi.
Mr Somaiya, who was a loud opponent of NCP leaders’ ‘corruption’ and has kept a low profile since some of them joined the Maharashtra government, has written to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, claiming that he has never assaulted a woman. He has requested that an investigation into the validity of the “videos” be conducted.
